Reducing the environmental impact of our activities is a challenge we simply can't ignore. We’re conscious that we all have an individual role to play in shaping a sustainable future and improving the world around us. To achieve this goal, we have made sustainability a shared philosophy, a guide for all our corporate activities, through the responsible management of our entire production chain. We are also committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, to increasing our use of renewable energy and to minimizing our water consumption and waste production, with the aim of limiting our environmental footprint.
We have a clear goal: by 2030, 100% of our electricity must come from renewable sources. To achieve this and other ambitious targets, we have developed a Sustainability Roadmap: a detailed action plan that will act as our guiding compass towards a more sustainable future.
We are committed to implementing specific actions to reduce our environmental footprint along the entire production chain. From sustainable design to the conscious selection of suppliers and raw materials, the use of clean technologies in our plants, and the proper handling of all products through to the end of their life cycle, we are adapting to be able to produce and distribute products that respond to our customers’ needs in a more sustainable way.
Over the years, we have been working on renovating our production plants and offices across the world to ensure that they are energy-efficient. Because we don't just want to dream about a sustainable future: we want to build it with concrete actions and initiatives.
The Clementino Bonfiglioli Complex in Calderara di Reno, Bologna, which includes the Evo plant and our Headquarters, represents a tangible example of sustainability and innovation.
All new facilities are “nearly zero-emission buildings” (NZEB) with an A4 energy classification.
These buildings have been designed and constructed to keep our energy consumption to a minimum. To maximize the use of solar power, a photovoltaic installation with a total peak capacity of 2.5 Mwp has also been installed on the roofs of both the plant extension and the car parks.
EVO is an avant-garde production plant, specially designed to ensure high energy efficiency standards and to minimize the environmental impact of its production lines. Inaugurated in 2019, EVO unites several production sites under one single roof, whilst providing employees with a comfortable and safe working environment.
Our Headquarters are also class A4 and have enabled us to take an extra step towards reducing our heating-based energy consumption through the use of geothermal energy.
The Group’s Indian company, Bonfiglioli Transmissions Private Limited, opened the doors to its new Pune site in November 2023.
Given the warm, dry climate, there was no need to install any heating inside the building. On the contrary, the site is equipped with a specially designed ventilation system. The building’s curved roof encourages the natural recirculation of air, assisted by a series of installed ventilators. To maximize the site’s energy efficiency, a photovoltaic system was integrated into the roof. The lighting in the office area is also controlled by sensors to further optimize efficiency.
Our new Spanish site comprises a plant of 14,000 square meters and a further 6,900 square meters dedicated to office spaces and logistics areas. The buildings were designed with bright, open spaces to encourage collaboration and communication between teams, and to create a dynamic working environment. In order to meet the Group's ambitious sustainability and energy efficiency standards, a 200 kWp photovoltaic installation was also created. The solar panels are estimated to be able to produce 35% of the energy required to power the site. The building is also so well insulated that it does not require heating during the winter months.
Proper waste management is one of our top priorities. In practice, this means reducing our waste production and ensuring any waste we do produce is handled properly across all our sites, actively involving our employees and only selecting business partners who share our commitment.
We encourage recycling, reuse and the adoption of alternative disposal methods through initiatives that involve everyone. We have launched several local projects to encourage people to reuse their wood, paper and cardboard packaging: something our own suppliers have got on board with too. Our "Zero Landfill Waste" commitment reflects our determination to contribute to the conservation of natural resources for future generations. By joining forces and collaborating with other companies, we are continuously striving to honor our responsible waste management promise, with the hope of building a better, more sustainable world together.
